"[T]he Foundation for Inner Peace and the Foundation for a Course in Miracles have established standard copyright/trademark policy and guidelines for A Course in Miracles, as follows: "Writers, authors, and others who request and elect to observe "discretionary use" of A Course in Miracles material in book-length works or review articles are limited to no more than 500 words in such cases. As in all cases, however, such discretionary use of Course material must be properly cited and attributed -- along with a disclaimer statement included in the work -- as prescribed in these Foundation guidelines. Requests for quoting material from A Course in Miracles should be made in writing. This guideline applies to newsletters, magazines, journals, and periodicals. "Requests where use of A Course in Miracles material is more than 500 words and up to the maximum use of five percent (5%) of an author's manuscript or work allowed, prior to granting use permission the Foundation must first review a manuscript copy of the unpublished work. If use permission is approved in this category, then a modest royalty payment will be requested under a contractual agreement that will also include citation, attribution, and disclaimer conditions. This guideline applies equally to newsletters, magazines, journals, or periodicals when Course material used in such publications is accumulated and arranged for presentation as a book, volume, or anthology. "Abridgements, condensations, rewrites, or derivative works of A Course in Miracles are not allowed -- to ensure that the Course remains intact and as it was originally received. This guideline is in keeping with the original mandate of its author that no other versions of A Course in Miracles are necessary or should be allowed, since the Course "speaks for itself." "To avoid confusion, the internationally registered name "A Course in Miracles" and "ACIM" can not be used by authors or others for or in titles of their written, audio, visual or electronic works, products, or activities. The name, "A Course in Miracles," is the identification of a complete, self-study, spiritual thought system, and as a title can only be used and/or licensed for use at the discretion of the Foundation for A Course in Miracles. In lieu of using the name "A Course in Miracles" as a title or subtitle, it is requested that the term "miracles studies" or "the miracles course" be used as a generic term or reference. "Permission to use A Course in Miracles material for merchandising or commercial purposes either in whole or in part will not be granted. "For those who receive permission to quote from A Course in Miracles, the following legend must be included in their publication or work, preferably on the copyright page: "Portions from A Course
